DIY
chain B&Q says reports that its sponsorship of Dame
Ellen MacArthur has meant staff bonuses are being
withheld are “absolute rubbish”.

The
company has recently reported profits of over £400m,
and some employees said they had been expecting a large
windfall following the announcement. A B&Q
spokesperson says there is no correlation between the
£5m sponsorship deal and discretionary bonuses, which
haven’t been paid this year because of disappointing
sales figures. The company also says £20m was paid in
bonuses during the last financial year, and the same
sponsorship deal was still in place then.
B&Q
has over 350 stores in the UK, China and Taiwan and
employs about 40,000 people. With its sister DIY
company Castorama which has stores in France, Italy and
Poland, B&Q is the biggest DIY retailer in Europe
and third biggest in the world. http://www.diy.com
