The
City of London is a hub of business and finance
contained in a square mile bordering the north bank of
the River Thames and not to be confused with the City of
Westminster. Within the Square Mile are galleries,
theatres, museums and concert halls to cater for all
tastes. The Corporation of London, itself over 800
years old, owns and cares for a number of historic
buildings and monuments.
The
City has a fascinating history steeped in tradition. The
ancient civic offices of the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs are
still an integral part of the modern Corporation.
Events such as the Lord
Mayor's Show and the Freedom of the City bring
London's history to life. When
we speak of London these days we include the built up
areas on either side of the Thames encompassed within
the oribital M25 motorway, to include the famous
landmarks below.
