Atlantis is described by Plato as a city that sank beneath the waves, held to be on the far side of the Pillars of Hercules. Thus, thought to be somewhere in the north-east Atlantic Ocean. Though some believe it is within the Mediterranean Sea, due to the many other earthquakes and tsunamis that consumed other cities in that region. Including Alexandria. It is more likely to be close to the Canary Islands, off the west coast of Africa, but theories abound. Disney even made a feature length animation (that is rather good) suggesting the Atlantis is submerged near Iceland.

According to Plato's writings and other historical references, if Atlantis existed where described, it is most likely to be found in the Atlantic Ocean not too far from the coast of Morocco. But the search continues.

In the John Storm adventure "Operation Neptune The Lost City of Atlantis," the Captain of the Elizabeth Swann accidentally discovers what he suspects may be the long lost city, reporting his find to Blue Shield. Blue Shield is a United Nations organization dedicated to the preservation of archaeological sites around the world.
